Ilketshall St Margaret lies 3 miles from Bungay, on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, approximately 12 miles inland from the east coast. It is a very small village with just a cluster of houses surrounding the pretty round towered Church. There are many beautiful walks from the village following the 'Beck' into the nearby villages of the South Elmhams.
In the next village called St Peter South Elmham, you will find the historic St Peter's Hall, which has a restaurant, bar and it's very own brewery! You may have seen their award winning beer in your local supermarket. Beer tastings and tours are available most weekends. The restaurant and bar in the magnificent Tudor hall are open everyday, together with the peaceful, moated gardens where you can relax and enjoy your beer on a warm summers day.
There are several small country Churches to explore in each of the nearby Ilketshall and South Elmham parishes, along with the village greens, commons and miles of footpaths in unspoilt countryside.
Bungay, a fine market town, has many traditional timber framed houses, inns and restaurants; a castle and a market buttercross, but it is most famous for it's antique shops and occasional street fairs. The Fisher Theatre puts on several plays and events each week, plus film shows on Thursdays. There is a good golf course and riverboat/cycle hire on the common. An indoor swimming pool with waterslide, is situated just down the road from the cottage - on route to Bungay. |
